Full Rev for Reggae Sumfest
KINGSTON, Jamaica; Armed with a selection of hit singles and
albums, backed by numerous awards and a reputation for energy-charged
performances, international reggae icon Sean Paul is in full effect for Reggae
Sumfest 2014.
Over the decades Reggae Sumfest has featured
its fair share of international superstars including Usher, Chris Brown, Flo
Rida, Miguel and Ne-Yo and will now once again present jamaica’s own
multiplatinum, Grammy Award winning international reggae star Sean Paul.
The artiste’s social media pages came ablaze with
the announcement on Friday when the artiste posted a video declaring that he
will be back on the festival. This will mark Sean Paul’s first time in a decade
performing on the Sumfest stage and the multifaceted singer, songwriter,
musician and producer, is expected to bring the set that has excited millions
of fans around the world to, Catherine Hall on International Night 2, Saturday, July 19.
He returns to the stage in his home country
as a global ambassador for Jamaica. "I'll be bringing the love the
world has shown for reggae music home," Sean Paul said of his performance.
The Got
2 Luv U singer will take his unique style to the stage, performing with the
full backing of the Badda Banz band.
"In discussion with his team, it
has been agreed that Sean Paul will be accompanied by his band, his dancers,
effects and a few surprises that I am not at liberty to reveal. Sean Paul will
put on a Show!" teased Summerfest Productions Executive Director, Johnny
Gourzong.
"Yup," added Musical Director Jason
"Jigzagular" Henriques. "In between the Full Frequency Europe Tour and some
other shows, we are rehearsing intensely in preparation for Reggae
Sumfest."
In the ten years since Sean Paul performed on
the Reggae Sumfest stage, the home grown global reggae giant has released an
unprecedented four major label albums, topped the Billboard 100 charts, picked
up an American Music Award (the first for any Jamaican) and four MOBO awards. The Want Dem All artiste also added another
four Grammy nominations to his resume and deejayed in over 100 countries across
the world.
Classic hits like Gimme Di Light, We Be Burning
and Temperature will likely be mixed
in with contemporary hits like Want Dem
All, She Doesn't Mind and most
recently his radio/club/street banger Come
On To Me produced by Major Lazor.
"There is no stage like home,"
reminisced Sean Paul. "I've toured the world, but Jamaica is still my
favorite place to be."
Reggae Sumfest will be staged from July 13 – 19 with a Beach Party on
Sunday, July 13 at Aquasol Beach, the All White Party on Tuesday July 15 at
Pier 1 and stage shows from Thursday to Saturday at Catherine Hall. The
festival will feature some of the greatest local and international performers.
With the announcement of Freddie McGregor, Busy Signal, Chronixx, Jah Cure, Beenie
Man, Sanchez, Bounty Killer, I-Octane, Assassin, Mr. Vegas, Aidonia, Bugle,
Nature, Spice, Alkaline and Zvuloon Dub System, to complement the headliners, Wiz
Khalifa and Tessanne Chin, anticipation is already frenetic for the 22nd
staging of the show. Sponsors for this year’s
