Full Black Ja a Full letdown?

Last Saturday , the grounds of the Lime Golf Academy came to life with the staging of Full Black Ja. Full Black is a live event which features some of Jamaica's hottest Artistes & D.j's like Sizzla , Ninja man , Lady Saw ,  Beenie man , Elephant man, Kiprich , Ding Dong & Ishawna.

Deemed as the ultimate Dancehall Showcase, this was not the place for any pya pya performers! This show was like a Pre-lude to Sting  for us "town people" if you are into that kind of vibe. According to Queen of the Dancehall, Lady Saw, she will be in a different kind of vibe and everyone will be taken for the ride of their lives at LIME FULL BLACK. Whilst a few billed artistes got their chance to perform , other billed Artistes like : Beenie Man, Ninja Man, Elephant Man, Kip Rich, and Ding Dong were yet to perform when the Police came and pulled the Plug at 3:05 A.m. The promoter of the event Horseman was not able to comment of the sudden "lock off" of the event but had this to say "I just want to thank all the billed artistes for attending".

There was one artiste who stood out for the night which I'm sure we all saw on one Social Platform or the other which was Ishawna. The popular female artiste debuted tow looks at the Event one Demur and the other Risque. We are not quite sure how these looks played into the performance but she sure struck the Media and all Smart Phone users attention.

Full Black Ja is a product of the Lime MVP with an attempt to create awareness of that product and appeal to a wider audience. The Event is attended by thousands of patrons each year.

If you went to the Event , tell us about your experience

ACHOO (A TRUE)!

Your health has been under attack since September or so, of this year. How are you coping? Physically, Spiritually and Psychologically that is... no pity parties. Believe it or not, you fight illnesses with your mind as much as you do with your body. Everyone everywhere has an idea of what the causes of these ailments are.
It’s apocalyptic for some, the end of the world, for others it’s human kind creating war on themselves, for many “A cyaa mosquito do dat!” and the conspiracy theorists meet and discuss their take on the outbreak of disease. On every street corner, in every office, around every school campus-the kids are talking current affairs, not to mention tuning in to the 7 o’ clock news. At first it was Chikungunya and as it still plagues our little rock we wait with unease, careful to dodge the sneezes of the U.S (we know how that goes)

Like a stubborn sneeze E-e-e-e-Ebola is on our minds, us trying to hold back as any eruption could rock us into a place of serious pain and convulsive shock of the “nervous system”. Many are nervous about the potential of this disease.

I’m sure we, as a nation, are praying to be speared from this disease and any other diseases of its kind.

Employers Counting the Pennies Lost to Chik-V: Chikungunya and Jamaica’s Productivity

One Panadol! One Panadol! (x2) Mosquito one, mosquito two, mosquito bite me mosquito bite you! is one of the tunes of the mosquito spread virus in Jamaica by the young, up and coming artiste Wayne J .While a number of Jamaican artistes are finding productivity in the outbreak of the Chikungunya virus by making songs poking fun at or informing the public about the virus, many other sectors of the work force are being combated by high levels of employee absenteeism. Employees are feeling the bite, a pinch to their pockets as they lose worker productivity. This attack on productivity by the virus has gotten the attention of The Jamaica Employers’ Federation (JEF).

The JEF expresses its concern about the threat to productivity on the island stemmed from an increase in the number of suspected cases of the Chikungunya virus. The JEF’s immediate past president Wayne Chen said the private sector is aware of an increase in employee absenteeism and the impact of the virus on the work force and the ripple effect on the economy could be significant. However, there is hope as the authorities work fervently to ensure that the outbreak does not attain epidemic status.

President of Jamaica Employers’ Federation – Wayne Chen
A detailed analysis of the impact that the Chikungunya virus is having on Jamaica’s productive sector is being conducted. David Wan, President of the Federation, has stated that the initial responses to a Chik-V survey being conducted, from five per cent of its 400 members; a clear indication that productivity is being affected.

"Approximately 90 per cent of that five per cent that responded say that they've noticed an uptick in absences and sick-leave for flu-like symptoms," he said.

Wayne Chen- President of Jamaica's Employer Federation
Employers are being asked to empathize with employees in the wake of the truly crippling disease that renders its victims helpless to high fever, excruciating joint pain mainly in the hands, wrists, muscle pain and ankles and a rash. The Health Ministry states that even though the virus does not often result in death children and the elderly are at risk of more severe symptoms.

The Health Ministry anticipates that this debilitating virus is likely to take its own “sick leave” in six to twelve months. Until then keep safe with mosquito repellents containing Deet, remove water from old tires bottles and cans around your house or workplace and close windows and doors in the evenings!

Have a good one Master One Fam!

Successful Tips for Going on Tour Pt 2

Our last article looked at Successful tips for going on Tour. As an Artiste , going on Tour is a huge part of your career , a large percentage of funds is earned by venturing to new Countries & Cities. Below is the last set of tips for going on Tour.

TIP #5: Go tell it on the Mountain!

Get the word out by bull horn, town crier or trumpet (just kidding). These days social media is the talk of the town and it would do you good if your following (assuming your brand as an artiste is social media savvy) is updated on the where and the when of your travels. It is important to be consistent online by keeping your fans up to speed through your social media outlets. Also be sure to get influencers from local newspapers, entertainment websites and blogs to get the word out about your tour, even give out a few press passes to these influencers to maximize press reach.

TIP # 6: Plan your day to day activities

Don’t just plan your venues! Where will you sleep? Eat? Travel from place to place? The nitty gritty has to be planned so you can even schedule free time throughout your tour. This is not to waste time but to ensure that you do not burn out (that’s when things get real messy). Have some downtime, a stressed musician will not perform at his best .Go and check out what different cities or towns have to offer while getting to do what you love as an artiste. The better relaxed and prepared you are the more benefit you will get out of you time on tour.

TIP# 7: Raise funds and budget

If there was no other reason to plan your tour far in advance, this is why. Planning ahead will allow you to raise money for your tour. Whip out your calculator and tap it up like Madea, ensuring you calculate all your mileage, hotel accommodation, food, emergency funds and enough cushioning for the unexpected. You can put aside some rain money from local gigs for your tour.

TIP#8: Advance the shows

Make sure to follow up with the show coordinator sometime between a month and a week before your performance date. This will paint a good picture of you as a serious professional with the venue and to the promoter. You always want to be held as reliable and professional in your endeavours. This will also allow a smooth flow of events for your fans and your band.
Some questions to consider:
 When are the set times?
What time do doors open?
What time can we load in?
Is there a sound guy?
Are there monitors?
Is there a catering budget?
Is there a runner for the show?
If your fans are younger, is there a curfew to worry about?
Researching these things will save you time and money and will leave your undivided attention on the paramount: your performance.

TIP #9. Build solid credibility

When it’s all said and done and your tour is over (sadly, all good things come to an end) keep the connections! keep in touch with the venue managers and booking agents. Send thank you letters and check in with them if ever in the same area again. These links will go a far way throughout the rest of your career. Manners carry you through the world!

By following these pointers, you’ll be prepared, organized and ready for the road!

Successful Tips for Going on Tour: Part 1

Jumping from one place to another, reaching out to fans and other curious Joes and doing your favorite thing in the world. This sounds like a great opportunity for a musician whether new on the scene or an established entertainment mogul to spread their influence to different geographies. Seeing persons outside of your local fan-base respond to your music is the ultimate reward for a musician .However, touring also comes with its eventualities and putting in quality preparations for your tour will make it as satisfying and beneficial as it can be.

Here are 9 successful tips for going on tour!

TIP #1:  Legitimate Work
Plane tickets? check
Itinerary? Check
Work permit? Uuuum?

Whatever you do, wherever you go, ensure that you secure for yourself a work permit for you to freely traverse on your tour without any glitches or hitches with the law.

Decide how you will apply, whether online or on paper.
Get the application package
Pay the application fees
Submit your application

Once you have your work permit, you are good to set up the logistics of your tour! One step closer to a successful tour!

TIP #2: Prepare your Electronic Press Kit

Before you wheel out your suitcases and dust off your passport you need to make sure your electronic press kit (EPK) is in tip top shape, indeed pristine condition to submit to venues along with all your social media channels and your website being up to date.

TIP#3: Do your Research

Have you ever been to a new place or event that didn’t quite meet up to your expectations in terms of entertainment value and value for your money? You want to ensure that the places you visit during your tour are worth visiting. Is this where your target market is? Are people keen on coming to the locations you have chosen? Many artistes or marketing managers (some artistes juggle both and have even more roles) separate their markets into A, B and C markets.
“A” markets are big music markets,” B” markets tend to be less dense areas but still with decent art scenes while “C” markets are typically less populated areas ; build your itinerary accordingly. While A markets will give maximum exposure, B and C markets are just itching for excitement and high entertainment! Your research will allow you to make informed decisions about venues. You will be able to uncover who has been to these venues before, how successful they have been and whether it is worth it to go there.
Once you get a hold of list of venues in the markets you want to tour through research, begin contacting them with your EPK and start confirming and solidifying your route. Six to twelve (6-12) months in advance is the best time to start doing this.
This tip will save your life! Don’t skip it.

TIP#4: Eye out your Pit stops.

The previous tip leads us to the next step of properly planning your tour. Planning a tour is a diligent process if you want the best results, more fans and more love from loyal fans. You should plan your tour at least six months, even a year in advance. This will give you room to wiggle your toes and to fit comfortably on venue booking calendars well in advance. You will also have time to plan your marketing calendar – from scheduling social media posts to getting on community calendars getting the people ready for your tour.
