Light it Up Blue for Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month. We are a few days in but it is never too late to observe and spread awareness of a worthy cause. The call of Autism Awareness Month is to educate our communities about Autism and Light it up BLUE! That could mean sporting blue clothing in support or it could mean wearing blue nails like TV and radio personality,Ms.Kitty did on Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall, in support of autism awareness.

Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a range of neurodevelopment disorders that is characterized by impairments in social interaction ,communication and restricted, repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behaviour.

A child with autism can appear to be developing normally and then withdraw and become uninterested in social engagement. From as early as infancy, a baby with ASD may be unresponsive to people or focus intently on one item to the exclusion of others for a long period of time. Many children with autism engage in repetitive movements such as rocking or spinning their bodies,or in self-abusive behavior such as biting or banging their heads. They also tend to start speaking later than other children.
Some early signs of Autism/ASDs include:
  • no babbling or pointing by age 1
  • No single words by 16 months or two-word phrases by age 2
  • No response to name
  • Loss of language or social skills
  • poor eye contact
  • Excessive lining up of toys or objects
  • No smiling or social responsiveness

Scientists aren't sure what causes Autism/ASD but genetic and environmental factors are likely to play a role.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for Autism or its associated disorders (ASDs).Autism may only be treated by educational or behavioral interventions, medication and other therapies.

We at Master One Productions Ltd did not paint our nails blue but we salute Autism Awareness Month by lighting it up blue and by it we mean our logo.We do hope you learned something today and help to spread the awareness.Shine a light on Autism and light it up blue!

5 Ways to Kickstart your Music Career

The year is fresh but the dream you have in your mind and heart is old news to you.You want a "buss" as a musician and  recording artiste. Here are five sure ways to kick-start your music career.

Be a Musician with a Plan

A musician or recording artiste these days more than ever is seen as an entrepreneur ,they are physically a brand and the primary marketers of such as brand. The recording artiste that wants to be successful has to set for himself goals,he needs a strategy to carry out his plan and the next couple steps he will make as a fresh face or name on the market.

Find your Team

Every great musician knows that he is as strong as his team is.There are some things you are well skilled at and others you are better off letting someone else manage for you. Collaborating with an artiste manager and skilled team in Marketing,PR and Advertising will push you in the right direction.Ensure that your team sees the same vision you do ,and is willing to take you there wholeheartedly.

Get in the Streets

In the fast pace world that is the music industry you have to be seen to be known .Who you know and who knows you spells success in the music industry.Ask for what you want ,take chances and never be afraid of hearing the word "No"; one person may not see your vision or agree with you but persistence is key.

Become Your Music.

We hear it all the time, practice makes perfect but really this cliche expression will be your bread and butter in the music industry. Will it be easy? No. Will it be a day in day out job? of course! But your fans will receive your best and undoubtedly come for more. Strive for consistency and producing music from your soul. You will be rewarded in time.

Choose a mentor

Find someone that can hone your musical talent to perfection and will teach you the lay of the land for a smoother journey.

Get It All Together

You are in a business, the music industry is a hard task master but you can conquer it.Seek the safety of a written contract that will protect your rights in the industry and garner advice before signing a contract.Communicate and operate professionally at all times, keep your deadlines and always keep track of your expenses.

Work fi your big buss!

Jazz & Blues Festival 2015

The renowned Jamaica Jazz and Blues festival at the Trelawny Stadium is ready to go today ! The much anticipated fest spans January 29th -31st where many exciting and promising acts will perform. The likes of international sensation Mariah Carey and the band behind the hit "Rude",MAGIC! along with the "Best Reggae Album" Grammy nominated Soja also join the interesting line-up that the festival promises this year.

According to Jazz organizers, “Jamaica Jazz and Blues in 2015 is all about connecting patrons to their inner fun self via musical performances that inspire, uplifts and puts people in a good mood. That’s why we thought to sprinkle a bit of MAGIC! on the Festival!"

Jamaican favourites George Nooks,Richie Stephens,Morgan Heritage,Errol Dunkley and Johnny Clarke among others will also grace the three day thriller.

The 2015 staging is headlined by international diva, Mariah Carey who performs on Friday, January 30. If you were ever a true Mariah fan ,you'd probably be screaming one of her chart topping songs trying in earnest to hit those ceiling high notes right until you get to the concert to chime in with the world renowned songstress.

Throughout the years of the festival's existence, its performances have been well received and the production proves to be of world class standing. Thus patrons expect more and more each year, after all it is said the Jamaican crowd is among one of the hardest to please. That said, Mariah should recover well from her last big gig,if she manages to sway the 2015 Jazz and Blues crowd (no hate,we love Mariah) :)

Seven time Grammy nominee ,Charlie Wilson along with international reggae band SOJA, and MAGIC! also appear on Saturday January 31.

For general admission tickets, the price is US$80 for Thursday and Saturday, whilst Friday night is US$120.

Capture Land - Short Movie

Jamaican films can be quite interesting as the angle with which a Jamaican story can be told is almost endless. We show the wider world different aspects of  Jamaica ,aspects that are not sun ,sea and sand.We can paint aspects that debunk the myth that Jamaica is just a great beach or worse that only violence is known here.Watch an interesting picture,an engaging tale,a journey of 'reason' in "Captureland".

"Captureland" is a short film by Nabil Elderkin inspired by the words of the late Nelson Mandela, and the song "Capture Land" by Reggae artiste,Chronixx. The short film was shot in early November of this year,in the historically rich Port Royal,Jamaica.

Capture Land was created as part of The Power of Words series in partnership with the Tribeca Film Institute and the Nelson Mandela Foundation. This has helped to spark the interest of filmmakers to explore the possibilities of using the written legacy of influential figures [such as Nelson Mandela] as a stepping stone for their work and edifying their audiences.

In its inaugural year ,the series will look at the teachings and writings of Nelson Mandela as a muse for more stories.

This short film may be accredited to Tribeca Film Institute ,Nelson Mandela Foundation, and Out of Africa.

Poetry in Motion

Musicians are poets .They create poetry in motion, as melodies move our souls, their voices instruments for toying with .Their bands create the background music to our lives. They can move us,into places of peace, serenity to fun,joy and excitement or take us to a dark, solemn or reflective place. This is the power of music and those that contribute to it.Will they spread good vibes or negative energy? It is entirely up to them.

The messages, images and emotions that musicians are able to produce for a listeners can be intentional and beautifully resonant with those that can relate to its meaning. Understanding music, the theory of it, is actually a very complex thing.

"Luckily ,we don't have to understand music to enjoy it"

Marketing vs PR

MARKETING VS PR

Publicity,Public Relations ,marketing and advertising, aren't they basically the same thing? No they aren't synonymous .They all communicate a story but the aspects they focus on differ.Public Relations (PR) and Marketing often get interchanged by those that don't understand the difference in their function.Their functions overlap and are very similar but  they are very unique and intricate and tend to compliment each other. The technology savvy users of social media and the 'techy' makes it even more important for these tools of persuasion. They are used not as a single effort by a business to propel itself and etch its brand into its customer's mind's but as part of a communication strategy.

PR is building a relationship with your customers.

Marketing is centered around building a product to have the right price ,placement and the right promotion of this product for its targeted consumers. A marketer's aim is to sell a product or service while PR is more concerned with the reputation of a brand and how consumers interact with that brand. This relationship building has taken a new form since social media is every company's best bet to connect with a variety of audiences, young and old.

Marketing supports sales.

While Public Relations is also concerned with the sales an entity makes ,this is marketing's prime goal.PR is defined by its overall positioning of a company ,its marketing and its sales.Every aspect of a company's communication strategy is targeted toward making more sales, including PR,but in a less direct way.By the good promotion of a company, consumers will see the company in a good light and the sales will come.

Marketing is proactive while PR is reactive.

Ever heard of a PR crisis ?  PR efforts are often made when there is news to be reported, a community that needs outreach,a new product to promote or change in a company's branding.PR is the aspect of a company that tries to capture the attention of the audience it targets to gain a special place in consumers' minds and hearts.

All in all the lines of these vehicles of communication to sell and bring profit to an organization blurs more and more each day.Due to new technologies and the need for target markets to stay plugged in to every move companies (small or large) make.

A company is more than a building, more than a logo ,more than a catchy tagline but a relationship and driving people to action ,which is the purchase of your product, service or idea . However , a tug and war need not be settled to see whether PR or Marketing is more effective ,but the two need to work together to make the dream work.

"Name Brand ": Branding,Get it Right .

In Jamaica, to many people, if you’re not wearing a brand “yuh nah seh nutt’n”. A ‘name brand’ as Jamaicans call it, is anything that is well known and usually more expensive than other brands and generally more coveted ,”everybody want one”. The essence of a brand is in what it says to a consumer and how it makes them feel. Business owners of small, large or micro enterprises; entrepreneurs all have to build an image that is memorable, reliable, effective and lasting. Who are you? What does your your brand say? How do people feel about your brand and how long will you be remembered?

A brand is the name, term.design, symbol or any other feature that identifies one seller's product distinctively from other products.

Your brand is everything, it’s true that a man’s reputation comes before him .Your brand tells your consumer what they can and should expect from you. It sets you apart from your competitors and builds your chances of gaining or cutting out a slice of market share for your business.

Is your brand a ‘name brand’? Well known and in high demand?

Here are some tips in creating your brand:

You can’t be all things to all people.

Ready, aim, fire! You need a target, you can’t and won’t reach everybody .There is no brand or product that will appeal to everyone .Therefore, figure out just who your target market is and make your brand as appealing to them as possible.

What are their likes/dislikes?

§  Are you satisfying a burning need with your product or service?
§  Is your delivery of these services done in a pleasing way?

How does your brand make them feel?

§  Important, like you value their time?
§  Can they trust your promises?

Are your services convenient and tailored to them?

§  Are your consumers comfortable with your office hours and open/closed days?
§  Do you make customers feel at ease to ask questions of your services?

Are you high cost/high quality or low cost/high value?

§           How do your prices compare to your competitors?

You can’t be at opposite ends of the field .Who you are as a brand is determined by whom your target customers want and need you to be .If there is a need, fill it! Tailor your brand to the people you know will gravitate toward your product/service.

The foundation of your brand is your logo.

Get a great logo designed and paint the town red with it!
Rome was not built in a day but when it comes to your brand, over days of publicizing your brand’s logo it can produce you the benefit of a buzz on the streets .You always want people talking (positively!)

Create brand messages

This is what your brand stands for. It tells your consumer your core values and what their experience with you will be like in light of your brand attributes.

Develop a tagline and design templates for your marketing materials.

Make it short, meaningful and memorable. This is your brand essence.
Your marketing materials be it posters, billboards, flyers, TV/radio/print ads, social media visuals need to be consistent in their message, colour scheme and quality. Getting a graphic designer to be true to your brand essence is also very important.

Be consistent
There’s no room to be great today and not so great tomorrow. Never let consumers begin to question who you are. Build a relationship with consumers that will allow them to trust your brand and recommend your brand without question.

Branding is a day in, day out ordeal.Establishing a brand is only half the battle.Maintaining your brand image is the next task at hand. Using a reliable agency to market your brand and keep up your appearance is paramount to building an effective brand.

Designing your logo, flyers, and billboards, in essence will build a reputation for your brand that will positively persuade your consumers on how to think and feel about your brand.

Your trusted partners in branding, Master One Productions Ltd, will get your business off on the right foot when it comes to branding your business or even your personal image.
